DVD "SOUND OF THE SAMI PLAINS"
The documentary film “SOUND OF THE SAMI PLAINS” (58 min) was filmed in Kautokeino, up in the very north of Norway, at the 20th anniversary of the yoik and song competition 'Sami Grand Prix'. This prestigious competition is held annually at Easter and is considered to be the most important event for new Sami- yoik and song. “Sound of the Sami Plains” is the first and only documentary that is ever made about Sami Grand Prix, which is the biggest cultural event in Sápmi; Norway, Swedem, Finland and Russia, where the indigenous Sami people of the north live, in close contact with nature. Callabee Film AS followed some of these artists during rehearsals and preparations the last few days leading up to this big event in Báktehárji sports arena. Many renowned Sami artists have either debuted or had their big brake at this colorful event. While the Sami peoples history often is one of hardship and struggle, this is a feel good movie that will brings out big smiles and laughter with any audience.
SUBTITLES: The spoken languages in the film is Sami, Norwegian, Swedish and English. The DVD is subtitled into English and Norwegian. The film is 58 min long.
